Holidays

We are back from our holidays in Dorset where we had great fun. Our holiday was a little later this year but it worked out really well as the beaches were quieter and the weather was a bit cooler. The weather was pretty great though - it was only rainy one morning.

Holiday 2011
We kept our holiday routine of a short walk at Ham common first thing in the morning (never that early though as we like to sleep in) and then after breakfast and a short rest we went off for a longer walk for the rest of the morning and afternoon. It was then home for dinner and a snooze before a last walk at night.

Generally our longer walks alternated between going to the seaside and to the New Forest. The New Forest was gorgeous and we stopped at our favourite tea room for lunch one day. We also did a new walk where we had to cross a ford. No problem for us but it was more of a problem for Mummy and Daddy as the water was quite high and they had walking shoes on. Thankfully there was a fallen tree over the stream further down so they managed to cross that. It was funny watching them try to balance when walking over the log but thankfully they didn't fall in. We also had a lovely picnic in the forest one day looking over the heathland.

Holiday 2011
Our favourite beach again was Sandbanks where we could run and play on the beach and in the sea. We went there a couple of times and had great fun swimming and we managed not lose any toys. Mummy and Daddy had fun looking at the big houses but we were more interested in playing in the sea. Saying that we wouldn't complain if they bought a house there so we could play on the beach every day. We also went for a long walks along the sand dunes at Studlands and also at Highcliffe Castle.

We know we said exactly the same last year. Thank you Uncle Dennis for letting us use your holiday home! Can we come back next year?

Twins

Vader often sleeps partly under the bed but never seen Chewie do it before.

We are now 6

We celebrated our 6th Birthday at the weekend.

We went for a lovely walk in Greenwich Park on Saturday morning but we didn't see any cyrils which was a bit of a disappointment to say the least. We did get a bit of a sausage sandwich though to make up for it which was quite a nice consolation.

We were going to got to the forest on Sunday evening but after chasing lots of cyrils on our morning walk Vader started limping in the afternoon so it was a very short walk round our local park with Vader on the lead. Chewie saw a few cyrils so she was happy.

Funny Boy

Vader is generally more playful.

This image is totally unstaged - it made me smile so I just had to take a photo.

Getting Wet

Chewie and Vader swimming
The last time we went to the beach it was pouring of rain so we didn't spend too much time there so it was great to head back when the sun was shining. We had lots of fun playing in the waves and we also did a bit of swimming. We then walked along the dunes to dry off before going off for lunch.

After lunch we did a bit more walking along the sand dunes looking for bugs before a last stroll along the beach before we headed home. We had a great day and hope we can we go back soon.

Not a lot

Not a lot has been happening in the past few months since our last update.

Vader has finished his new treatment for his sore leg (it has to be repeated at 6 month intervals) and is continuing with his acupuncture once a month. As he has improved we are back to longer walks although we have not managed our 'usual walk' in the forest. We have nearly got there though. We are still on shorter walks during the week although we generally have an extra walk most days to compensate for that.

We did manage to get to the seaside one day in early June but it was so wet and miserable that we had enough after an hour or so and came home. The weather had been great up until then so we were unlucky but we didn't mind that much as we still had fun playing in the sea.

The warmer and lighter nights have allowed us to be outside for longer and enable us to watch and wait for foxy - probably one of our favourite occupations. As you can see from the photos Vader's ball (what's left of it) is never far away.

Happy Puppies

For the first time since the 24th of April we made it to the forest today for a longish walk.

After our last walk in Richmond, Park Vader was so sore that he has been at the vets having some new treatment for his arthritis. He has been coping remarkably well for so long with acupuncture and herbs but he really hurt himself in Richmond. Not sure if it was the length of the walk or the fact that we went twice within a few days (whacking his leg on a fallen tree did not help either) but he was very sore for a few days after the walk and looked quite miserable. A visit to vets resulted in some new treatment, short walks and a couple of weeks of anti- inflammatory painkillers. He has made a good recovery so far and hopefully his walk today will not have inflamed the joint. It was shorter than our usual walk in the forest (about half the distance) but both Chewie and him had fun. We also took Precious along and she loved it too.

Lets hope we can start to have longer and longer walks again as we love them so much.

Bye Bye

Sophie and Charlie
We said a sad goodbye to Sophie and Charlie this week. For the last few years we have seen them most week days when we have gone for a walk in the park. They are both great characters - Charlie does not like people and Sophie does not tolerate other dogs very much. Over time, however, Sophie has got to adore both Chewie and Vader. You should see Sophie run up to Chewie when we meet - it is so sweet. They have gone back to New York with their owners and we hope Charlie copes with the busy Streets of New York. Mummy forgot to get a last picture with us with Sophie and Charlie but we did get a couple of just Sophie and Charlie ( with Tower Bridge in the background).

More walking

We have just had a gorgeous week so it has been great to be out and about. We have had some walks with a Tibetan Terrier puppy called Louis. He is sweet and fun to be with. Chewie likes to play him while he walks along trying to steal the ball from her mouth. He is cheeky.

Vader still has his acupuncture but he gave us a scare at the weekend in the forest. He actually got so bad limping that we had to cut our walk short and bring the car to him. Thankfully we were close to one of the car parks so it was just a case of one of us staying with the puppies while we got the car to him. He was actually so sore that when we got home he wouldn't get out of the car on his own and he had to be lifted. 24 hours later he seems to be fine but he does worry us.

As you may be able to tell Daddy has still not managed to make our new movie - we must remind him as it has been a while since we added one.

Hobbling on

It has been nearly a month since we updated the site but we have both been in the wars a bit. Vader has been limping on and off for a couple of weeks, especially on long walks but also on shorter ones. He had his acupuncture this week so that seems to have helped a bit as he was not too sore when he came home from his long walk today in the forest.

Chewie managed to cut her pad walking up to the park a few weeks ago. She seemed to initially be OK for a couple of days then started limping on and off. Some new shoes had to be bought to try and keep the wound clean as the other ones were far too large for her back paw. As she was still limping a week later a visit to the vets was required. Some antibiotics and shorter walks means that she is now on the road to recovery.

Daddy has a new camcorder so we hope to add some more video soon to the site.

Out and About

We have been out and about quite a bit over the past couple of weeks. We had a nice walk in Wimbledon Common where we got quite dirty. We saw a few cyrils but no Wombles or Rabbits. We have also been to Epping Forest where we again only saw a few cyrils. Haven't seen any rabbits there for a while so not sure where they are hiding. We got really dirty on our walk in the forest so had a quick swim in the pond to clean up. It was a bit chilly but not too bad.

Vader has been limping quite a bit the last few weeks but seems to have improved after his acupuncture. Not sure if he has been bad because of the weather or the fact that he has been playing with Chewie a bit more in the garden and his elbow is getting knocked. It doesn't seem to bother him which is great although you can't help but feel sorry for him when he is limping on his walk.

Getting Dirty

A dirty vader
Not sure how he did it but Vader managed to get his head pretty dirty when on a walk this week - as you can see from the photo. He didn't mind though as he was chasing a cyril at the time in the rain and we think it was actually Chewie who manage to get him filthy. Both puppies have been having fun in the rain - they don't mind going out in all weathers.
